CASA Classroom Teacher

 Position:  CASA CLASSROOM TEACHER

(NOTE - This position will be automatic surplused at the end of the 2026/27 school year.)

The Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board is seeking one (1) qualified full-time teacher to work out of Holy Trinity CSS, Courtice.   The teacher will work with a team of support staff, SERTs, and Consultants to provide instruction and support for students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders in our schools. We are seeking a teacher who will be focused on supporting our strategic plan by “Building a Community That Accompanies” through ensuring equity and providing excellence in teaching and learning, which will effectively support excellence for all students in the CASA program.

IN ACCORDANCE WITH the current Collective Agreement, “The Board reserves the right to select candidates for teaching positions in congregated special education classes through an interview process.” Applicants to this posting MUST submit a resume package as outlined below.

Responsibilities and Expectations : 

• Provide instructional programming for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders which may include grade level expectations from the Ontario Curriculum and/or modified expectations, based on the students’ assessed learning strengths and needs;
• Provide instructional programming for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders in the alternate areas of communication, self‑regulation, social skills, life skills, and transition planning, based on the students’ assessed learning strengths and needs;
• Develop Individual Education Plans for students and attend IPRC meetings and case conferences as necessary, including preparing, completing, and filing the appropriate corresponding documentation from the Special Education Online System;
• Knowledge of PVNC Board policies/procedures regarding Safety Plans and the use of physical intervention.

Qualifications :

REQUIRED
Ontario College of Teachers certification with:
Senior qualification
AND
Special Education Specialist (Part 3) OR Special Education Part 2 AND Autism elective

PREFERRED

• Special Education Specialist;
• Training in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA);
• Previous experience as a Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT);
• Previous experience teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorders;
• Training in Autism Spectrum Disorders such as: Geneva Centre for Autism – Autism Intervenor Certificate and /or Kinark School Support Program – ASD – Autism Institute Levels 1 and 2 Certificates and/or Autism AQ.  

NOTE: It is anticipated that interviews will take place as soon as possible.
